GAINESVILLE RESIDENTS SAID “NO”

BY THE FLORIDA/GEORGIA STAR

It was not on the agenda but had been publicly announced that a motion would be held to remove the name of former Congresswoman Corrine Brown’s name from a building named after her in Gainesville, Florida.  Many citizens, using the
3-minute limit speech, spoke up against the removal, citing that the Congresswoman raised the $40 million dollars to construct the building and did so many other things for Gainesville that her name should never be removed. No one stood to speak for the removal and the Commissioner in charge of the meeting stated that a motion to remove her name is not appropriate at this
time and preceded to the next subject matter.
