Burroughs-Molette teacher, Delano Mitchell brings national reading achievement award to Brunswick

7.4_mitchellSchool teacher Delmano Mitchell is one of five teachers in the country to be named a 2015 National 180 Award winner by Scholastic, a global children’s publishing, education and media company.

Scholastic recognized Mitchell for going above and beyond the call of duty in implementing the READ 180 program in his classroom, enabling students to exhibit remarkable progress in reading achievement during the past school year. The Glynn County School System (GCSS) utilized Scholastic’s READ 180®, System 44® and MATH 180® programs this year to help struggling students achieve in the classroom and on new state assessments.

“We just don’t see this type of implementation, especially in the first year,” Scholastic representative Pam Waller told the Glynn County Board of Education while recognizing Mitchell at a recent board meeting. “When you think about the kids that Mr. Mitchell was working with and the difference he made with them in one year, it’s just astounding.”
