Students from two local schools were honored by Mayor Alvin Brown Monday evening during a news conference and reception.
Both the Ribault High School girls and Somerset Academy boys basketball teams were presented with awards for their winning 2013/2014 seasons.
Ribault’s team took home the state’s stop honor for the second year in a row, earning the title of Class 4A State Champions. Ribault defeated Fort Myers Dunbar 7253.
“I want each of you to know how proud I am of your success,” said Mayor Brown to the students. “It’s wonderful to see young people like you working hard, doing your best, pursuing a dream and making it happen.”
Mayor Brown also honored Somerset Academy boys basketball for its victorious season. The team claimed the title All City Middle School Champions.
“I’m glad to celebrate your athletic and academic achievements,” said Mayor Brown.
He encouraged players on both teams to stay focused on their grades and study hard.
“Remember, you can be anything you want,” he said. “Just stay focused, work hard and play by the rules.”
