Good DeedThe photo of the local officer who visited a young boy he helped back in March has gone global, turning them into internet celebrities and reminding folks to give a helping hand.

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Officer Derek Pratico responded to a burglary to a vehicle. The owner of the vehicle was extremely upset because her son’s birthday present as well as other belongings were taken from her vehicle. She did not have any money to replace what was already purchased. She did not know how she was going to give her son a birthday.

Officer Pratico wrote the police report and went on his way for the day. The next day Officer Pratico went to the store and purchased with his own money a birthday present, birthday cake, and birthday card for the young boy and took it to him to celebrate his birthday. He also purchased a $100 gift card to give to the mother to help her get back on her feet.
