Georgia lotto winner murdered

Police in Fitzgerald have not made any arrests in the death of a 20 year old who recently won a Georgia lottery jackpot.
Craigory Burch Jr. died from gunshot wounds during a home invasion robbery. His girlfriend who was present at the time of the incident ran for help.

Burch won nearly half a million dollars in a Fantasy 5 in November 2015. The forklift operator used some of his winnings to buy Christmas presents for needy families.

Jacksonville woman charged in Savannah hit-and-run

Savannah-Chatham police arrested Darcia Wilson, 50, of Jacksonville for the January hit and run death of 72-year old Peter Meyer of Vero Beach, Fla. Eariler this month, Wilson confessed to the fatal accident at the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Traffic office. TContinue Reading

Hurricane Joaquin brings death and destruction to The Bahamas

Hurricane Joaquin has forced entire communities in the southern Bahamas to be evacuated in the wake of one of the most catastrophic natural disasters to hit the nation in recent years. 33 souls travelling through The Bahamas are believed to have perished when their ship, El Faro was lost.

OpioIt is with great honor that we inform our readers of our new General Manager, Opio Sokoni. Many in the city know Mr. Sokoni from his work as the president of the local SCLC. His term there was marked with action. Under his leadership the name “Forrest” finally came down from the high school that was named after the confederate general. He was also instrumental in organizing the vigilance in front of the courthouse during the Michael Dunn trial. Dunn was convicted and sentenced to prison for killing Jacksonville teen, Jordan Davis for refusing to turn down his music. TContinue Reading

Dr. Leonard Dawson was born in Kingsland, Georgia. He was born to the union of the late Rodgers Dawson and Oneida King Dawson. He enlisted in the Army in 1958 and served his country until 1960. He married Louise Mitchell of Kingsland, Georgia in 1961; they remained happily married until her passing in 2004. From their union they had two children, Avis and Neil. TContinue Reading
